A portal is a rift in the time-space continuum, which creates a corridor connecting two universes to each other through a third temporary demi-plane.

The colours of portals are important, both for determining the type of portal and the creator (or type of creation) of the portal. For example:

• Solid grey portals are portals from The Spiritual Realm. These portals are not controlled by the Gatekeeper, but by the Reaper'Mor'st, but they only allow transport of a person's soul.
• Grey portals with flickering edges are technology-created portals, for example from the Mortis Infinitum.
• White golden portals are Asgard-created portals.
